I am reposting a review, as my previous review was deleted – AMAZON must exercise the same censors as TNT. This is NOT the same version seen on TV — powerful has been removed to facilitate “classroom viewing.” The TYPICAL practice is to included ADDITIONAL footage in a DVD release because the DVD doesn’t have to cater to TV advertising time and audiences with short attention spans. The DVD customer wants a safe film – didn’t TNT ever hear of “Extended Versions? ” Not only does this DVD NOT have additional footage – footage aired in the novel TNT TV broadcast has been censored. Its even more choppy than the TV version! Gone is Sitting Bull’s sundance prior to the Small Bighorn – with associated deep native perspectives. The Wounded Knee footage is also heavily edited from the grand more distinguished version shown on TNT. Sanitized. The stark slaughter of the fleeing innocents – and hodgekiss guns – are gone. Instead we are left with the endless and dead side stories of Wheeler peripherals. The “extra footage” CD is also a demolish — a lot of pontificating from actors, and the music video. Would have worthy prefered an extended version – geared to an adult audience keen in solid history – not this mishmash of mini vignettes. Additional scenes to better tie the record together – and non-santitized TRUTH. History is too necessary. This is a heavily edited, sanitized, and choppy film – with a cheesy CD extra with a laughable video. Would have prefered the accurate soundtrack and something with Joseph Marshall narrating. His narration in the film is one of the few splendid things, along with station shooting.

I was ready to win this station and I even picked it up at the store and I was going to select it but then I noticed that it said it was edited for “classroom viewing”. The demographic for this exhibit was not even halt to child’s age. I also can’t consider of a single classroom that would air a twelve hour expose. It would grasp too long. I will retract this DVD when it is sold in its novel format and I wait on all of you to do the same.

These movies were made in the slow 50’s, early 60’s….so there is NO EXCUSE for issuing them in this format. They were shot in 2.35:1 ratio….so almost HALF THE Recount IS MISSING!!!

This is the second time Columbia Tristar has deeply disappointed me on films I wanted in DVD. The first was their butchering of “Where Angels Go Anxiety Follows” and “The Anxiety With Angels”.

GIDGET was shot and released in CinemaScope, and yet the DVD is an unwatchable panned and scanned copy, which crops out 50% of the frame. Unacceptable, especially since TCM airs the widescreen version on cable! The film is ruined; don’t bother.

The sequels were not Scope; they do not suffer as remarkable.

Avoid and boycott this DVD until they go befriend and do it fair.

This video should have been called “The Anecdote of Abraham” instead of Sodom and Gomarrah; the whole video was strictly about Abraham; Sodom and Gomorrah was only a brief piece of this video.

I did not give this video a 5 for the following reasons:

1) Definite parts of the account were left out which were share of the biblical text; while other parts were inserted which were not share of the text. These parts that were added were not contradictary to the scriptures, but I would rather have seen biblical parts than non biblical (speculation) .

2) Abraham is depicted as chosen by God because of his occupy righteousness; because he loved the truth. While it might have been proper that he loved the truth, the biblical record is more along the lines of God choosing people out of his gain capable pleasure. God didn’t call any of us because we were genuine, but because he loved us.

3) This goes with point #1- Melchisedec was not in the story- this scene was left out. When the Angels went to Lot’s house to abide, the fragment where the Sodomites tried to rupture down the door, etc. was left out. I am not obvious why this was left out, but probably because they didn’t want to offend Sodomites. I understand that we shouldn’t purposely offend people, but to leave piece of the text out is impartial nonsense and compromise.

There were runt things here and there that I didn’t care for but overall this was a advantageous video. It is not nearly as poor as the “Garden of Eden” video. I contemplate it can be a satisfactory video for your children to eye as long as you are able to enjoy them in on the parts that are lacking (or added that are not necessarily proper) .

Very Righteous Narrative, but there are objective a couple of problems. The First being that the legend tends to be kind of choppy, but that’s understandable. But the other scrape is Mighty More Serious, at least to Me. There is a Really Really Annoying Song that the Narrator Sings in between scenes, and it makes You want to hit the Tranquil Button on Your TV, and that kind of defeats the purpose of watching. You can’t question Kids to remove something like this seriously, if there’s going to be this song that makes them want to barf! The song is Completely Unnecessary, and could be replaced with impartial instrumental music if needed.

I was pleasantly surprised by this. The product details don’t mention it at all, but this IS a “thinpaks” release. The plot contains all episodes of seasons 1-5 on 50 discs in 25 dual-disc thinkpaks, packaged in a sturdy, cardboard box. The box is grand smaller than the Amazon product photo makes it appear. Placed sideways on your bookshelf it will rob up less room than the First Season box situation. The artwork on the outer sleeves of each thinpak is the same as previous releases. Artwork on the spines of all thinpaks, when viewed together, report the Amdromeda Ascendant comin’ at ya! The discs in this collection are single-sided, unlike the double-sided discs in the 2-5 season box sets. The issue and episodes on the discs are the same as in previous releases. If you already bear the previous releases, this may not interest you grand. However, if you didn’t like the double-sided discs of the season 2-5 sets and would like the set this plot will put on your shelves, it IS worth getting.

I gain this is by far the best DVD position ever created. This region is well worth every single penny spent. I absolutely loved this collection. To be able to gape every episode and so great slow the scenes information was wonderful. I really wished that Andromeda stayed on for many more seasons. I bear shows like these bring some light into our sad world at times. If Andromeda was to arrive out again, they definitely have someone here willing to contemplate every winking moment.

The West Coast is by far the best television series I’ve ever seen. 5 stars for that. However this status, although nice to recognize at, has too many flaws for me to recommend it very highly. 3 stars for this space.

My main gripe is that there are no English subtitles. Why not? There is plenty of position on the disks and subtitles don’t assume up that remarkable. The acquire would be far greater than the cost!

I often have to rewind episodes three or four times to win a phrase that I can’t quite beget out hearing the first or second time. There is often so worthy background noise (sirens, crouds, music, etc) that one can’t construct out all the intelligent dialogue by only listening to the audio.

The UK editions have English subtitles, so why can’t the American versions?

Another gripe is the packaging. While it is very nice to study at on the shelf, cleverly designed with file folders holding each season, it is impractical and scratches the disks! The folders are hard cardboard and the slits (not even lined with felt or soft material) are so narrow you have to really press the disks in, damaging and scratching them up!

The UK boxed state uses 22 slimline DVD cases, holding two discs each, all packaged within season-by-season flow cases.

I recommend paying a limited extra and ordering the UK version instead: ASIN B000I8OC08 on Amazon.co.uk. It has the same 21+ hours of extras this situation has so you won’t be missing anything except the booklet and script, which frankly doesn’t add distinguished value.

There is no examine in my mind the “The West Glide” was one of the greatest drama series on television ever. And if you’ve been holding out on buying the DVDs until this box station was released then I would suggest you fraction with some cash immediately. The recount for a lot of people reading these reviews, however, is going to be whether or not they are going to want to replace individual box sets with this release. So if you are a Wingnut, chances are you’ve seen everything here before and as I said it really comes down to the packaging and the fact that you were going to lift Season 7 anyway so why not splurge on this. I’m giving it 4 stars as opposed to 5 because I can’t quite forgive the makers for Season 5 and also because it would have been nice of them to include something extra for the Wingnuts here considering it is us who are really going to be purchasing this status.

Sure, Dracula gave a face and a mythology to the vampire in the 1800s, but the werewolf didn’t score similar treatment for quite some time. It was only with “The Wolfman” that the werewolf got his due, creating the template for lycanthropes everywhere — a haunting, atmospheric myth about a mildly creepy man who (through no fault of his acquire) turns into an unholy mixture of man and beast.

Larry Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr) returns to his ancestral Welsh home after many years away, to reconcile with his estranged dad who looks nothing like him (Claude Rains) . He immediately starts acquainting himself with his frail home, including being rather creepy towards a dazzling woman named Gwen Conliffe (Evelyn Ankers), who is working at her dad’s antique store. He even accompanies Gwen and her friend Jenny to a local gypsy camp to have their fortunes told.

But after having her fortune told, Jenny is horribly killed by a wolf; Larry beats it to death with his silver-topped cane, but not before being bitten. You can probably guess what happens next — the wolf turns out to be the gypsy fortuneteller (Bela Lugosi), and Larry’s bite mysteriously heals overnight. And after being warned by an former gypsy woman (Maria Ouspenskaya) that he has now contracted the curse of the werewolf, Larry finds himself undergoing a poor transformation at night… and killing.

It’s a effect of how qualified “The Wolfman” is that its dated special effects (hello, lap dissolve!) and prosthetics don’t hamper it as a myth — it’s an vivid, slowly-unfolding tale about an ordinary man whose expedient deed backfires in a ample plot. It’s also less “boo! Scary!” anxiety than psychological scare — Larry is left wondering if the unimaginative gypsy passed on his horrific curse, or if all the talk of werewolves has given him clinical lycanthropy. In other words — is he cursed, or is he insane? Not a fun choice.

And George Waggner wraps the movie in honorable atmosphere — lots of misty forests, quaint rural villages, murky chapels and the occasional outbursts of shrieking and offscreen violence. The beginning is a shrimp awkward (enough canned father-son “reunion” conversations!) but kicks into gear when the characters go wandering off to scrutinize the gypsies — and after that, it’s a dumb bloody form as all the scientifically impossible things approach just, and Larry finds himself increasingly trapped.

And while some of the werewolf stuff (including the renowned rhyme) was made up for the movie, it adds a sign of mythological creepiness, as well as some graceful incantations (“The plan you walked was thorny, through no fault of your have…”) .

And Lon Chaney Jr. did an beneficial job bringing a sympathetic edge to the werewolf, turning convincingly from a jovial engineer/aristocrat to a man stunned by his horrific change. The one problem: he isn’t very sympathetic at the beginning, since he basically stalks Gwen (looking in her window with a telescope? ) and won’t accept lost when she tells him to. Ankers gives a beneficial performance as a local like interest, and Ouspenskaya gives a spectacular performance as the primitive gypsy lady — eerie, sympathetic to Larry’s jam, and with a dry sense of humor.

Despite a slightly creepy lead character, “The Wolfman” is quiet an enduring classic — it’s no longer exactly scary, but it is deliciously spooky. Definitely a must-see.

The Rainmaker 2.35:1/Dolby Digital 5.1 Paramount Pictures

The first adaptation of a John Grisham anecdote that I’ve really enjoyed, “The Rainmaker”, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, looks at the life of a bad young Southern lawer, Rudy Baylor(Matt Damon, in a enormous performance) as he battles against an insurance company and it’s staff of lawers(led by Jon Voight) .

Baylor is battling for Donny Ray Murky, a young man who’s insurance claims have been turned down time and time again; Kelly Riker(Claire Danes), who lives in continuing terror of her abusive husband and Miss Birdie, an older woman who simply wants to support her money from her greedy offspring.

This is really the best of the Grisham adaptations and I’m fairly certain it’s the hand of director Coppola that has it rising above the rest; the film is crowd-pleasing positive, but it’s also very intelligent and very well acted, with a lot of rich dialogue and some very inviting and racy characters. Danny Devito, as Damon’s succor, has a lot of fun in a sizable performance; like in “LA Confidential”, we’re seeing Devito as his absolute peak lately. He’s been picking bigger and especially, worthy better roles lately. Matt Damon’s first major performance in this film is also very well done, yet another in his line of subtle, fantastic performances along with “Courage Under Fire” and “Suitable Will Hunting.” Powerful like Damon’s last film “Rounders”, I also plan his narration in this film was well done and well written(by Michael Herr)

Overall, it’s an safe film, well directed, acted and written. It’s a well-told record by Ford Coppola and it’s highly interesting. “The Rainmaker” was one of my picks for the top 10 films of 1997.

The DVD: Picture: Well, where there’s first-rate, there’s also dreadful. It’s downhearted that Paramount did an unsatisfactory job with this disc. Colors are not terribly well defined or vibrant; inequity is only fair; the whole disc looks, to my eyes, like an “okay” laserdisc would. There is definitely a noticeable amount of pixelization and some lustrous. It makes a point I was talking about with another person a couple of weeks ago all the more apparent to me. I said, “the best DVD material will absolutely blow your mind; at worst, it’ll fabricate you shrug your shoulders and say, ‘well, that’s sort of okay’ “. “The Rainmaker” simply made me shrug my shoulders in dissapointment. It’s probably the least impressive narrate transfer in my collection of discs, and that’s too unpleasant since this is really a tall film that deserves a gargantuan disc. In a time where Tristar is making discs that survey as obedient as “Godzilla”, there’s no excuse for a film that’s not terribly old-fashioned like “The Rainmaker” to eye like this. It looked this device on my Panasonic A110. Hopefully, although I highly doubt it, people will have better luck on other players.

Audio:Pretty kindly. It’s definitely a dialogue film, backed by a nice, subtle gather. Both are well recorded and obedient to listen to. Nothing terribly mind-blowing. Again, the annoying plight is unruffled there; you can not switch the audio during the film, only from the menu. Try during the film and you’re out of luck.

Menus: Very frail. The describe on the front of the box with some simplistic bordering and large, insensible buttons.

Extras:Nothing. No 16×9, No Trailer, Not A Thing. Absolutely zero.

Overall: It’s a immense film and if you liked the film as remarkable as I did, it’s worth a win at some of the very coarse prices found on the internet, but after watching this disc, I would *definitely* not pay stout note for it. If you’re considering it, I’d highly suggest a rental first, unless you like the movie itself as mighty as I did.

Overall Disc Quality:**

Matt Damon was a relative unknown when he was tapped to play the hero of “The Rainmaker”, based on a current by John Grisham & directed by Francis Ford Coppola. It was a twist of fate that launched Damon’s career and definitely lifted this movie. (Ironically, Matthew McConaughey got his launch the same way- being an unknown cast in a movie based on a Grisham unique.)

The location is a classic David-vs-Goliath story- new out of law school Matt Damon sues an insurance company for denying treatment to a family with cancer. Ultimately Damon triumphs- the qualified cause succees and the system works. Damon is a major talent, as evidenced by his performance in this film. He’s insecure, unsure of himself, but basically a trustworthy person committed to doing what’s legal.

I wasn’t too impressed by the rest of the cast- Claire Danes is a talented actress but fails to shine here. Danny DeVito is okay as Damon’s law partner, and Jon Voight comes across as a none-too-interesting arrogant villain. The rest of the cast? Nobody stands out- this is Damon’s demonstrate.

What impressed me about “The Rainmaker” was its hard, unflinching portrayal of the true profession. A lawyer’s life is not glamorous and does not necessarily guarantee a titanic paycheck. Those snappy to criticize lawyers ought to recall some law courses before they begin their mouths- the road to becoming a lawyer is rough and a remarkable commitment of both your time and financial resources. Despite his law degree, Damon’s financial narrate at the beginning of the film is decidedly precarious.

Watch “The Rainmaker” along with “A Civil Action” and “Erin Brockovich” to bag a dazzling genuine view about the plot the law works & how courts give the miniature people an avenue to even up with spacious shots like corporations and insurance companies. When I reviewed the previous Speedily Forward volume, I was relatively disappointed with how 4Kids had revamped the series to be lighter and funnier for the kiddies. Over time, I guess my attitude has softened. While Mercurial Forward detached isn’t perfect, it’s a relatively curious diversion. This second batch of episodes are stronger than the first, with Cody finally confronting his disagreeable uncle and Shokonabo’s master concept coming to light. The Turtles graduate to the ninja level of Chunin, Torbin Zixx returns to play both sides, and old-fashioned foes from the past grasp revenge.

Really, I’m almost a microscopic dismal that Hastily Forward will be cancelled and retooled, presumably re-modeled after the successful TMNT cgi film. While a return to shadowy and gritty is better, the Quickly Forward conception was finally beginning to come by its groove. Hopefully the last episodes will be memorable, and leave Speedily Forward as more than a passing footnote in the Turtles’ history.

A lot of people have their gripes with TMNT: Rapidly Forward, but I personally always supported the change since the beginning.

This Second position of 13 episodes has a stronger feel, and a powerful more progressive record. Now that they have established a lot of the characters, they can justify a bit more about them, or honest execute them further.

Some of the better episodes are “Head of Place”, “DNA is Thicker than Water”, “Zixxth Sense” and of course “The Day of Awakening”. one of the best (and possibly the funniest) things I glimpse in these episodes is a particular Villain (not bishop) collected lives!

I say, if you are a TMNT fan through and through, and you like or bear the first 13 episodes . . . do yourself a favor and bewitch this DVD situation! I am REALLY tickled I did.

Indicates how he influenced America during the hard times and changed baseball forever. Despite Ruth’s rough life style his talents and popularity are unprecedented and unquestioned. This was the age before friendly equipment (bats, gloves, etc), and strength enhancing drugs.

Very wonderful narration and dialogue on this vhs. Highly recommend it for baseball and history fans alike. There will never be another Ruth and he’s the proof and that’s the truth. Peep how his totality of records have stood the test of time and are the measure to which others are compared.

An hour well spent.

This is quite frankly the finest documentary on the life and times of Babe Ruth that I’ve seen. I was mesmorized from launch to finish; an absolute gem and a must for any Babe Ruth fan.

Some films are able to dazzle you without the utilize of special effects, great Hollywood stars and nudity. They manage to slither under your skin and pick up inside you. Whatever the reason, currently Romanian is a hot property. People and critics are unprejudiced buzzing with excitement about what is going on in Romanian cinema. And even though I’m not Romanian (I’m Hungarian) I’m sparkling aroused about it too.

In 2006 there was the release of “The Death of Mr. Lazarescu”, besides “4 luni, 3 saptamani si 2 zile”, also released in 2007 was “12:08 East of Bucharest”. These three films seem to be section of a fresh wave in Romanian film. Each takes on novel day society while questioning the past. All three are confrontational.

“4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” takes status during a 24 hour period in which a young girl, Gabita Dragut (Laura Vasiliu) seeks an abortion in Ceausescu’s Romania. At the time such acts were against the law. She needs the succor of her roommate, Otilia (Anamaria Marinca) to sort out the details and supply some succor, since the father of the child is not only never seen but never spoken of either.

The two girls regain in contact with Bebe (Vlad Ivanou) through a mutual friend. Bebe is the only person who will construct an abortion after the 4th month, this is how the film gets its title. That is how long Gabita has been pregnant. Bebe though does not seem like a trust superb kind of guy. He has something up his sleeve. But he will not be the raze of their problems.

The film sets itself up as a thriller and enjoy it or not, it is suspenseful. There are no trot sequences, no cops and robbers, objective the suspense that the two girls will catch found out and risk prison and worst yet may have physical injure done to them.

Though the characters never lisp directly about politics, Mungiu and his cinematographer, Oleg Mutu (who also shot “The Death of Mr. Lazarescu) very in subtle ways screech the viewer about life under Ceausescu. We can sense the paranoia of the times and the government control. ID’s are contantly asked for and checked. Streets are empty. Everyone buys supplies from the dismal market. Even if you are not familiar we the history of Romanian we can sight or at least catch a sense of what life was like under the times.

The film is fully conceived and realized by Mungiu who has directed only one other feature film entitled “Occident”. Every character is believeable as is their station. I never questioned whether or not what was on-screen could or could not happen. It is common as truth. But the standout performances are given by the girls. Neither has noteworthy experience. Marinca has a brief role in Francis Ford Coppola’s “Youth Without Youth”, also position in Romania. And Vasiliu has only acted in one other film, Nicolae Margineau’s masterpiece “Bless You, Prison”. With such limited acting experience how on Earth did these girl pull off these roles? They are the heart and soul of the film and deserve every bit of acclaim they gather for this movie and more.

And the film has been getting acclaim. It was the winner of the Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. It won a prize at the Chicago Film Critics Award and was nominated for a Golden Globe. Sadly though, it has received no Oscar nominations, showing the Academy’s prejudice towards countries on the eastern side of the Berlin Wall.

Mingiu says the film is only the first allotment of a series he plans on making ironically entitled “Tales From the Golden Age”. I peruse forward to seeing all of them.

Bottom-line: One of 2007’s best films. An intense film that becomes all the more monstrous when you mediate “this feels suitable”. Two strong performances by the young girls in the film are highlights.

I judge there are some facts that people not familiar with Romanian history need to know in order to better understand the movie. Since the Ceausescu’s goal was to increase the population, not only the abortion was illegal but the contraception was also non-existent. Young people were also not educated in family planning at all. Occasionally one could grasp contraceptive pills from dubious sources on the dusky market, but overall, besides using the calendar procedure (highly unreliable for many women), the abortion was the immediate mean to avoid an unplanned pregnancy.

The movie is superb and there is no need for spoilers however, since people will react accordingly depending on their stance toward abortion, I mediate it is indispensable to mention that abortion was not illegal on just grounds. It was a area policy to increase the population which made contraception and family planning education also illegal or at least non-existent.

Ironically, statistics showed that the population did not increase nowhere arrive end to what was expected.
